To her grown up daughter

57467

Her hands were busy through the day;
She didnt have much time to play
The little games you asked her to
She didnt have much time for you
She wash your clothes, shed sew + cook
But when youd bring your picture book
And ask her please to share your fun
Shed say, a little later, hun
Shed tuck you in all safe at night
And hear your prayer turn out the light
Then tip-toe softly to the door
She wished she had stayed a minute more
For life id hurt, the years rush past
A little girl grows up so fast
Her precious secrets to confide
The picture books are put away
There are no longer games to play
No good-night kisses
No prayers to hear
That all belongs to yesterday year
Her hands, once busy, now are stiff
She wishes she could go back and do
The little things you asked her to.
