What are the information displayed on this page?
This page shows the current seismic activity by displaying the last recorded earthquakes.
Maps and additionnal information are linked to each event.
 
Where do the data come from?
These information come from several (50) individual seismological networks in the Euro-Med region. These networks provide location and phase pickings to EMSC (either automatically or manually) as soon as they have detected an event. See list of networks.
- If an event has been reported by only one network, it is displayed on the web page only if the network is authoritative in the region where the event occured.
- If an event has been reported by at least 2 networks, EMSC recomputes a location automatically by merging all phases pickings reported by the individual agencies. These relocations appear in bold font.
- If the event is significant (its magnitude is close to or larger than the local alert thresholds in the region), its locations is recomputed manually by a seismologist and appear in red. See last significant event. 
 
How often is this page updated?
This page is fully dynamic. The last column "Last update" indicates the last time (in GMT time) the location has been updated or relocated. Therefore, the location and magnitude for each event may vary in the hours following the earthquake.
For example, an EMSC automatic relocation (that appears in bold), is recomputed as soon as new data for this event are available. 
 
What is the meaning of each column?
For each event, the following parameters are displayed :
- Date : The day the event occured.
- Time : Time of occurence of the event (in UTC = Universal Time).
- Lat : Latitude of the event (in decimal degrees).
- Lon : Longitude of the event (in decimal degrees).
- Depth : Depth of the hypocenter (in kilometers).
- Mag : Magnitude type + magnitude value of the event.
- Region name : Name generated from the Flinn-Engdahl (F-E) seismic and geographical regionalization scheme. The name of these regions may differ from country names.
- Last Update : The last time (in GMT time) the location has been updated or the event has been relocated.
